Jennifer Orozco
Resident in Counseling
Hablo Español!
Jennifer is a resident in counseling from Colombia who earned her master’s degree in counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU). As an international student for many years, her experience as an immigrant has been diverse and deeply authentic. Jennifer believes that people are the experts of their own lives and stories. She supports clients on their journey of self-exploration to increase self-awareness and understanding, helping them discover their own solutions to life’s challenges.
Jennifer views therapy as pure and simple — a meaningful conversation between two people centered on the client-therapist relationship. By creating a space where clients feel comfortable and understood through active listening, reflection, empathic understanding, and unconditional positive regard, she empowers clients to make meaningful change by their own ideas instead of other people telling them what to do or think.
Depending on the client’s needs, she often integrates motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and family systems approaches. Recognizing that each client is unique, Jennifer understands that no single theory or intervention works for everyone. She takes a client-centered approach that allows her to tailor therapy to each person and each moment in the therapeutic process.

Hello! My name is Jennifer Orozco and I’m an international student from Colombia. I came to the United States more than 10 years ago. As an international student for many years, I continued getting involved in my community, learning about the immigration laws and other support sources for us in the city. I understand that we all have unique journeys and experiences. I’m always open to learn and research new ways to help people and I’m absolutely inspired to help my community.
My favorites:
- Exercising!! I love lifting weights and the gym.
- Eating healthy, nutritious food. I love cooking new, healthy recipes.
- Dancing. I came from the capital of the salsa, Cali, Colombia. I love dancing salsa, bachata, merengue, and more.
- Tennis. I love playing tennis with my brother during the weekends.
- My dogs, Ragnar and Max. I love spending time with them.
- My family. I don’t have a lot of family in the US, but I’m very family oriented. Every free time I have, I try to share it with them.
